How to Make Your Bathroom Look Nice During Remodeling

I have been remodeling bathrooms for many years. In the beginning, I made plenty of mistakes when choosing materials, colors, and lighting. However, with each completed project, I gained valuable knowledge. Now, I’d like to share a few tips to help others avoid the same mistakes.
1. Color Theme
Trends change over time, but currently, a simple black-and-white contrast is a popular modern design choice. When selecting shower wall tiles and flooring, consider how they will complement the vanity, mirror, faucet, and lighting.
Pure white can feel too plain, so adding a mosaic accent can enhance the design without breaking the budget. A mosaic stripe in the middle of the shower wall, a niche, the edge, or even the shower floor can make a big difference.
If your lighting fixtures are black, adding white elements can create a striking contrast.
2. Vanity
The vanity plays a crucial role in bathroom design. Choose one that fits the space in terms of size and height. Decide whether you need a single or double sink.
Before purchasing, check the inside of the vanity to ensure it aligns with your plumbing. Moving pipes for a fancy vanity can add extra costs and time.
3. Lighting and Mirror
Lighting: I prefer simple, functional lighting over fancy fixtures with non-replaceable bulbs. If you're remodeling for a rental property, opt for fixtures with standard, replaceable bulbs.
Mirror: A large, framed mirror adds character to a bathroom. Black or white frames are the most common, but a curved frame can provide an elegant touch.
4. Faucet Selection
When choosing a faucet, check the vanity to ensure compatibility. Consider:
Hole count: 1, 2, 3, or 4
Finish: Brushed, black, bronze, brass, chrome, nickel, copper, iron, pewter, platinum, silver, stainless steel, or white
Number of handles: 1-4
5. Bathtub
Bathtubs can be expensive. If you have space, a freestanding tub adds a modern and stylish look.
Older tubs, often made of heavy cast iron, can be difficult to move.
If you're on a budget, refinishing an old tub by sanding and repainting rusty areas can make it look new at a lower cost.
6. Shower Room
Showers can be stylish, depending on the space available. A larger shower allows for creative tile and mosaic designs.
Shower doors: Work with a local glass company to customize the design.
Showerheads: Large, rainfall shower heads are currently popular.
Accessibility: Adding a grab handle is a great feature, especially for elderly or handicapped individuals.
I look forward to exploring more unique bathroom designs in future remodeling projects.
